VARSITY HEAD COACH

Chris Saunders

Coach Saunders is a Bay Area native who has been coaching in the West Catholic Athletic League primarily as an offensive coordinator for over half a decade. Prior to coaching Bay Area high school football, Coach spent two seasons at Menlo College as the Special Teams Coordinator and one season at Central Catholic High School in Portland, Oregon as an assistant.

Before becoming a teacher and coach, he went to Linfield College in McMinnville, Oregon where he played tight end in one the nation’s best offenses in NCAA Division III where he received all-league honors.

JV HEAD COACH

Luis Valdez

Coach Luis Valdez started coaching right out of high school and has been coaching football for 12 years. He got his start at Palo Alto High School, where he coached for 9 years, including offensive line, running backs, and linebackers. He was also head coach at Paly for 2 years. This is his 4th season at M-A where he has been the JV Head Coach (2021 League Champs) and Head Freshmen Coach. Coach Luis believes strongly that football taught him accountability, commitment, personal growth, and self-awareness and he wants to give back to the sport that has given him so much. When he is not coaching, he works at a post-secondary school with students with disabilities. He also loves hanging out in the park with his toddler Xavier and wife Kenna.

FRESHMAN HEAD COACH

Marquise Reid

Marquise Reid is the Head Freshman coach for M-A. This is his fourth season coaching at M-A and his second as the Head Freshman coach. Marquise graduated from M-A in 2017 and was Varsity captain of the 2016 state runner-up team. He was a three sport athlete in high school. He loves working with freshman because he feels it is important to create a fun and supportive environment where they can learn and grow both as individuals and athletes. He believes that his ability to connect with and inspire young players can have an impact on their development and love for the sport.
