Menlo-Atherton Football FAQs

FOR PLAYERS

Do I need to have prior football experience to play?

Many of our players have no experience when they start playing. Some played flag football and others have come up through Pop Warner with years of experience. In all cases, our coaches are experienced in teaching players the fundamentals required to be safe and successful on the field, and work hard to optimize team play with a combination of conditioning, skills, and discipline.

What do I have to do to play football?

Prior to the first practice in August, all players must complete an Athletic Clearance Packet and be cleared by the M-A High School Front Office.

Is there an off-season and summer program for Menlo-Atherton Football Players?

All football players have access to our top tier strength, conditioning and football development program which runs nearly year round. Players are expected to participate in order to develop strength and mobility, avoid injury, and master the fundamentals of the M-A playbook.

When is the first day of REQUIRED football practice/tryouts? Are there "cuts" for the team?

The first day of mandatory practices and tryouts is usually in early August and includes equipment distribution with double days starting soon after. Check our important dates page for specific dates and times.

We are a no "cut" program as long as players meet the program standard and maintain the requirements of the coaches, teachers, and school administration. Student-Athletes must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA and the credits necessary to play football.

What equipment is required to play football?

All helmets, uniforms and pads are provided by the program which is funded by the M-A Football Association. Players only need provide their own Spirit Pak items (included in the Participation Pledge) and cleats. All gear provided by the program meets CIF standards and is rotated and maintained regularly.

FOR PARENTS

How do I sign-up to play football at Menlo-Atherton High School?

Click here and complete the New Player Information Form to add your contact information and receive our e-mail distribution list.

Due to CCS rules, we are not able to contact incoming freshman until mid-June. Those currently enrolled at M-A can begin receiving information e-mails immediately, and are free to contact the coaching staff.

What does it cost to play M-A Football?

The total cost to field a player is over $1,500 per season. And while no one is ever turned away for inability to pay, all players and families are expected to participate by providing monetary support or volunteering their time as they can.

Scholarships are available by contacting Susan Mohr at sdmohr@aol.com or Coach Saunders at chsaunders85@gmail.com

Does M-A Football fundraise to support the program?

Yes we do. Since the program receives minimal funding from the Sequoia Union High School District, the majority of the football program is supported by fundraising and the volunteer efforts of the M-A Football Association. All players and families are expected to participate by providing monetary support or volunteering their time as they can. Click here to make your contribution today or send your check to Menlo-Atherton Football Association, PO Box 1081, Menlo Park, CA  94026.
